WOMEN IN ARCHITECTURE = DEAD FISH IN THE SEA ??

Do you think women are disadvantaged to their own circumstances

GENDER EQUALITY --  both have dispropotional access to thing & should be equal oportunities

Feminism is about ‘ demand for equality & not equality ‘. WHITE WOMEN BLACK WOMEN    WHITE QUEEN BLACK QUEEN. I believe that women / others genders are not farthest than men ( considering no relevance of.  class , race here ) & thus need only equal opportunities to prove their potential .

Gender Equality comes here to play where gender equality is something where women , queens

other groups who are farthest behind need to watch up to the achievements & thus need to be given more to bring them equal to men which is not true !

Of we talk about another substance were race , class division exist , then

Gender Equality would come into play as women or group farther down the chain of hegemony & queen from lover class much differentiated down as compared to upper class women /queen to men

Gender Equality is needed.

Where are women architects?

DOLORES HAYDEN

DOLORES HAYDEN  - spoke against the notion of ‘’women’s ‘’ place is in the home.Social-economic & environmental changes are necessary to deal with & gender stereotype

Taking the ‘ feminism voice /perspective offering  theoretical position & practical solution for the egalitarian built environment

1.Transforming the economic situation of traditional home maker .

2.Transform the domestic situation of employed women .

3.Is it possible to non – sexist neighbourhoods . Where new approach to planning and design recognize our employed women & their families  as a constituency .

4.HOME 9{ Home Makers ( for re organize & work ) Organization ( groups who work together  efficiently ) for a more eglatarian society .

5.Child care & unpaid labor on equal bases    involve men & women in paid labor force on equal basis , minimize unpaid domestic labour & waste of energy consumption .

Feminism is about demanding equality .

It presumes that women don’t want ‘fair’ don’t want equality , don’t want to be raised proportionally to their limits of needs , age , appetite . Rather they believe they have substantial potential and needs to be raised to men’s level , that their needs , age , appetite , passed men’s level and then gender is not disproportional in any manner

In  Architecture , even if you give equal resources , does I fit ? Is it equal / work for everyone ? It might although not be fair & that is where equality kicks in . It’s often not about equality – it’s about preferences  .

MEN-800  WOMEN-10000

Do you achieve equality ?

YES . Finding a shoe is important but finding a shoe of a right size is more important .

Right demands are necessary .

We wish to route for equality .

We don’t want to be treated like men , right ?

We are ignoring biology that we are not men . We as women are taking more & more responsibility with passing years  & asking for respect for doing multiple jobs avoiding them well – we are wanting to be treated more seriously  .

In Architecture we do demand for gender equality but in the built environment it’s Gender Equality that we are talking of .

BEATRIZ COLOMINA _ SEXUALITY AND SPACE

beatriz lecture.jpg

On gendered spaces in design

Article meraki - instead of treating spaces as gender-neutral , there needs to be awareness about the subtile spatial prejudice which is overwoved for instance in a traditional setting , women are generally expected to remain in the inner closed off area whereas men interact & occupy outer spaces ( there is non uniform representation of women as designer & consumers of design entities ) .

Beatriz colomina

1) Politics of space are always sexual even of space is meant for ensure of sexuality .

2) Space is a form of representation & dose relationship b/w sexuality & space are hidden within everyday practices .

3) If architecture has to be read / re read in terms of sexuality , the idea that it is an object is abaudoned .

HISTORICAL DOMINANCE

Focusing on 2 iconic figures LE CORB & GLEN MERCUTT & their mythical status  as star architects . She says that situation of why western theory modernist , post modernist remains masculist in outlook & expressions , not because of socio – economic facts on ground or historical absence of women from progression or their continuing under representation or women’s relative rarity as client – it’s embedded in the very epistermological & institution phenomena –

‘THE BODY HOUSED BY ARCHITECTURE IS ASSUMED TO BE MALE AND MIND WHICH REDUCES ARCHITECTURE IS MORE TO BE MASCULINE’

MASCULINE HAS BEEN

•Subjugaded with human . It is so natural to acknowledge ‘human’ as ‘man’ .

•Creativity is associated with ‘genius knowledge reason , order , mastery’ all masculine .

•Masculinity is contrusive of nature & the very  ethos of architecture .

•These stereotypical masculine manifested myths have cultural particularities associated with Architectural profession .
